Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park 

On the West side of Burnt Store Road just south of Punta Gorda, you will find the the protected lands of the Charlotte Harbor State Buffer Preserve park and the offices of the Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Perserve. Within the preserve are nature trails that lace through the natural Florida landscape and the educational Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center which offers nature exhibits and learning experiences.

The Story of Burnt Store Road

Once a quiet country two lane road running south From Punta Gorda to Cape Coral, The Charlotte County portion of Burnt Store Road has become a popular area for development. With  six existing communities and more planned for the near future, the Burnt Store Corridor is fast becoming a very desireable address. 

Local legend has it that Burnt Store Road was named in the early years of settlement when the  natives got angry with the local trader and burned down the area trading post. 

The Charlotte County communities along Burnt Store Road beginning from the north are Burnt Store Isles, Burnt Store Meadows, Pirate Harbor, Burnt Store Village, Burnt Store Lakes and just across the Charlotte County line, the exclusive gated yachting community of Burnt Store Marina and Country Club.  

The Lee County Line lies just on the Northern edge of Burnt Store Marina and almost immediately past the Marina you enter the City Limits of the 2nd largest city in Florida, Cape Coral.  The development in Cape Coral is mostly on pre-platted single family residential building lots.  New individual owner housing starts are everywhere along the Cape Coral portion of Burnt Store Road.  Much of the building boom is generated by the extension of Burnt Store Road into Veterans Parkway and by the increased commercial building on Pine Island Road.
