IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - NATURE IS EVERYWHERE
|
Nature Lovers are drawn to the tropical lower peninsula of Florida where there are many pristine and protected natural areas. The broad grasslands and hammocks of the Everglades, boggy cypress swamps, palmetto carpeted piney flat woods, sloughs, mangrove forrests, aquatic reefs, aquatic preserves, parks and other protected areas offer endless opportunities to experience the natural side of tropical Florida.
Florida's natural areas provide habitat for a wide variety of birds, repitles, mammals, fish and plant life. Birds are perhaps the most noticible as they they soar overhead, flit among the scrub and canopies and fill the air with their calls and the music of their songs. If you like bird watching, you can do it everyday right in your own back yard. To see hard to spot or migrating birds you can venture along Florida's Great Birding Trail.
Florida's mamals are often hard to spot but what a thrill when you do!. They include the elusive key deer, coyote, fox, bobcat, black bear and the very timid Florida panther.
